Danebury
Grasstrack Racing Club started in 2003, as a way
of giving something back to the sport. Our
committee consists of Basil March,
President/Assistant Treasurer; Karen Wells,
Secretary; Alfie Wells, Chairman, who organises
our track preparation and is quite a boffin in
his garden shed, making many things including
our speedway style start gates; and Basil's wife
Betty, who is always there keeping us all going.
This year we are pleased to welcome Sheryl
Carter-Heatley (Treasurer); Mark Heatley; and
Martin Phillips to the committee.
Grass track racing is very much a family
orientated motorcycle sport and is fun for all
the family to enjoy. Races take place on a flat
grass oval which is approximately 500 metres in
length. Races consist of up to 12 solo
riders/6 quads/6 sidecars and are run from a
standing start over four laps.
Grass track racing is fast. Unlike motocross,
where tracks are purposely designed to keep top
speeds down, grass track riders can always enjoy
high-speed action! With solo motorbikes reaching
speeds of 80mph on the straight and having no
brakes fitted, you can always guarantee high
speed, competitive and enjoyable racing.
Danebury Grasstrack Racing Club are delighted to
have been accepted by the ACU to host the 2009
British Youth Grass Track Racing Championship,
on Saturday 10 October. With just under 100
riders entered in the nine youth classes, this
year's event has all the potential to be an
exciting and enjoyable race meeting. With a full
line-up of 20 riders in the junior class and 15
in the intermediates, with the quality and style
these riders are showing at the present time,
these heats should prove to be amongst the best
grasstrack racing you'll witness this season.
Danebury GTRC are also delighted to be hosting
the Southern Centre Championships again this
year, on Sunday 11 October, and are pleased that
many of last year's winners have returned to
defend their title and hope to become the 2009
Champions.
